How are YOU? The Silliest question in English!
How are You?
When someone ask this formal question to
you, how is your response?
Are you able to speak clearly and
correctly, how you are or how you feel?
Are you able to speak exactly what you want
to tell about you or just parrot the standard response, ‘I am fine’, ‘Excellent’,
‘Going Good’, or ‘Just Going Well’… and then when you ask someone the same
question, are you able to get the proper answer? Probably Not reason that we
have become little bit autopilot in terms of formal behaviour with little
thought on that. We have just asked people their welfare just for asking and
then get busy without own work.
Suppose someone ask you, ‘How are YOU?’ and
if you start revealing exactly what you feel, I am sure, the expressions of the
listeners got changed as he is not really expecting you to answer honestly. Is
he/she?
The world has just entered into the
formality zone where very few individuals are considerate about others’ pain
and problem. They are not bad; they just have become like that as they also
have their own pains and problems to solve.
My argument here is that if you are not
really caring anyone, no need to ask him/her, ‘How are you?’; not to waste in
the act of silly formality. If you ask someone about how he/she is, provide
them undivided attention and listen to them emphatically with considerate feelings.
Or Else! It is sheer waste of time and energy from both the communicators.
Next time when you meet someone, be mindful which questions, you are asking or responding. Instead of asking this mindless question, ask proper question perfectly suitable to that individual.
It is true that sometimes we all
become emotionally sterile and all the feelings have gone! But your attentive listening
can ease someone’s pain, may be your words of empathy or encouragement change
the life of someone.
Think before you speak! AND why to speak, Just LISTEN! It may change someone’s life. Remember life will never be the same! Not convinced, listen to Haddaway – Life
(My Favourite song)
I am taking note of it....time to unlearn few things....
